The Community Youth Network (CYN) was established in 1999 as one of the initiatives under the National Child Benefit (NCB) Provincial Reinvestment Plan. Its mandate is to develop an array of services for youth living in or at risk of living in poverty. CYN services are intended to enhance opportunities for youth to participate in social and economic development by focusing on the five lines of: business; education/learning; employment/career exploration; capacity-building/community-building; and support services & recreation. The Network is currently coordinated through the Department of Human Resources, Labour & Employment .
On February 27, 2009, the Open Door Community Youth Network was launched in Gander. This CYN will service youth from Gander, Appleton, Glenwood and Benton. Our mandate is to provide a variety of services for youth 12-18 years of age. Its inception resulted from a need to decrease barriers to education and/or employment, and improve the quality of life for young people. This youth network is a culmination of customized programs and services created by youth for youth.
